By a vote of 219 to 212, the House voted Friday evening to approve H.R. 2454, the "Cap-and-Trade" bill to reduce emissions of global warming gases.  Rep. Petri voted against the bill.  Full Release

Advocap Wins Head Start Grant
Congressman Tom Petri reports that Advocap, Inc. of Fond du Lac, a non-profit community action agency, has been awarded a $134,498 grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  The funds will be used to train and retain qualified staff associated with the Head Start program run by the agency.   Full Release

Petri Expecting TV Digital Transition Complaints
This Friday, at various times during the day, TV stations all across the country will shut down the analog signals that have been used since the 1940s and instead broadcast solely in the modern digital format.  As a result, Rep. Statement of Rep. Tom Petri (R-WI) Following Today's Hearing on "Increasing Student Aid Through Loan Reform"
Today's Education and Labor Committee hearing highlighted the benefits of originating all new loans through the Direct Loan Program.  Besides the tremendous cost savings to taxpayers, we heard testimony detailing the positive experiences schools have had as a result of switching to the Direct Loan Program and the benefits the program provides to both students and college aid administrators.  Full Release
