Service Academy Nominations

Representative Petri is currently accepting applications for the classes entering the U.S. service academies during the summer of 2010.

For information on the individual academies:

• U.S. Military Academy (West Point, NY)
• U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, MD)
• U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, CO)
• U.S.Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, NY)

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, single, at least seventeen (but not yet twenty-three) as of the date classes begin and residents of the 6th Congressional District.

Nominees are selected by the 6th District Commission on Congressional Appointments. The Commissioners are distinguished residents of the 6th District from all walks of life who review all applications and interview applicants.

Interested students should request an application by contacting one of Representative Petri's offices by October 15, 2009. They should also register to take either the ACT or SAT.

Please note that Representative Petri does not have nominating authority to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (New London, Connecticut). Admission is on a competitive basis and application should be made directly to the Academy.
