Transportation Requests 2009
The following projects have been requested by, and have the support of, the
Wisconsin State Department of Transportation and/or local officials.
Lake Shore Drive Railyard Overpass, North Fond du Lac
This project will construct an overpass on Lake Shore Drive across the railyard located in the
Village of North Fond du Lac. The current crossing is frequently blocked by trains parked on
the tracks at the yard, compromising emergency services response and cutting off access to the
east side of the Village. The Village and CN Railroad will also contribute to the costs of the
overpass.
$6.4 million request for the construction of the Lake Shore Drive railyard overpass.
U.S. Highway 151 between CTH D and CTH E near Beaver Dam, Dodge County
This project includes various improvements to a major roadway (designated as a
Backbone route by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation) that links commercial,
recreation, and residential resources. The project will rehabilitate the pavement
and two bridges, replace six bridges, reconstruct the CTH D interchange, and
reconfigure ramps at the STH 33 interchange.
$14.3 million request for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the USH 151
corridor near Beaver Dam.
Interchange at U.S. Highway 151 and CTH V, Fond du Lac County
The Fond du Lac Bypass is a four-lane high speed expressway. In order to address
safety issues and an increasing number of crashes on the Bypass, access restrictions
were implemented prohibiting crossing maneuvers and left turns along the Bypass. This
has resulted in less direct access into the city of Fond du Lac and negatively impacted
residences, businesses, and those approaching Fond du Lac. This project would provide
for the construction of an interchange at CTH V to restore local access to the city.
In addition, frontage roads will provide connectivity between U.S. 151 and CTH V.
$12 million request for construction of the CTH V interchange at USH 151 and frontage roads.
STH 23, Princeton to Ripon, Green Lake and Fond du Lac Counties
STH 23 is an important roadway in Central Wisconsin, providing access to Hwy. 41
to the east and Interstate 39 to the west. This project provides for the
reconstruction of a portion of the road and resurfacing the remainder of this
13-mile stretch of road. It also includes the re-decking and widening of two
bridges, passing lanes, acceleration/ deceleration lanes, turn lanes, and a five foot
paved shoulder for bicycle use.
$11.5 million request for the reconstruction of STH 23.
Oshkosh Bus Capital Project
$3 million request for the replacement of buses that have reached or exceeded their useful
life as defined by the Federal Transit Administration.
U.S. Highway 41 between STH 26 and Breezewood Lane, Winnebago County
U.S. Highway 41 is a major transportation corridor and commuter route that links
Green Bay, the Fox Valley and Northern Wisconsin to Madison and Milwaukee and the
rest of the country (it was designated a "future Interstate" in the 2005 Safe,
Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users -
SAFETEA LU). This project, part of a multi-year upgrade project, includes
expanding the existing four-lane roadway to six lanes, upgrading seven interchanges
and numerous bridges to modern design standards, lengthening on-ramps and other
improvements.
$15 million request for the design, acquisition of right-of-way and reconstruction
of U.S. Highway 41 between STH 26 and Breezewood Lane.
Maritime Metro Intermodal Transit Facility and Bus Capital project, Manitowoc
$3.168 million request to construct an intermodal facility and replace buses.
Sheboygan Bus Capital Project
$3 million request for the replacement of buses that have reached or exceeded their useful life
as defined by the Federal Transit Administration.
U.S. Highway 10/STH 441 between CTH CB and Oneida Street, Winnebago and Calumet Counties
USH 10/STH 441 is a vital transportation link serving the Fox Cities urbanized area and
surrounding towns in Winnebago, Outagamie, and Calumet Counties. The project will expand
USH 10/STH 441 from four to six lanes between County CB and Oneida Street, including the
construction of a new bridge across Little Lake Butte des Morts. Numerous interchange
improvements will be completed, including at USH 10/USH 41. The existing Hwy. 41 interchange
at USH 10 is incomplete, cutting off access to areas west of the highway. The project will
increase safety, mobility and provide economic development opportunities.
$15 million request for design, acquisition of right-of-way and utility relocation
associated with the project.
Fond du Lac Bus Capital Project
$3 million request for the replacement of buses that have reached or exceeded their useful life as
defined by the Federal Transit Administration.
