WASHINGTON - Appleton native Meagan McCanna has been named Wisconsin's Cherry Blossom Princess by the Wisconsin State Society in Washington, D.C., and will represent the state during this spring's Cherry Blossom Festival, a major annual event in the nation's capital.
The 22-year-old graduate of Appleton North High School and Marquette University will be taking part in the Cherry Blossom Festival, which begins on March 29th. A reception will be held in her honor by the Wisconsin State Society. She will end the week by participating in the city's Cherry Blossom Parade.
McCanna currently works for the office of Rep. Tom Petri, where she helps 6th Congressional District residents who need assistance dealing with the federal government on matters concerning Social Security and Medicare benefits, passports, veterans' services and the like. Also, she recently took on new duties tracking and working on legislation.
"She's doing a fine job helping the people of east-central Wisconsin get the attention they deserve from the federal bureaucracy, and I know she will also do a fine job representing our state during the Festival," Petri said.
The Wisconsin State Society is an organization for Wisconsin-connected people living in the Washington area. It participates in the Cherry Blossom Festival through the National Conference of State Societies.
