Petri to Highlight 21st Century Skills While Visiting Fond du Lac, Green Lake Schools
U.S. Rep. Tom Petri will visit Fond du Lac and Green Lake schools this Thursday, May 3, to draw attention to efforts to prepare students for the future's economy. The visits will be held with representatives of the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
The delegation will tour schools and meet with local school leaders to see examples of the kinds of educational programs which foster 21st century skills such as creativity, innovation and global awareness, all of which prepare students for lifelong career success.
Petri notes, "Work is changing, and traditional repetitive factory jobs are disappearing. Many modern jobs require people who can think creatively, solve problems and work well with people of varying skill levels. Schools in Green Lake, Fond du Lac and in many areas around the state have made innovative changes to help prepare their students for the job market they will eventually join. I'm eager to learn more about what the schools are doing."
In Washington, Petri is sponsoring the 21st Century Readiness Act, legislation that would eliminate some of the red tape that prevents states and local districts from spending federal dollars on innovative projects like these. Also, Petri is forming a bipartisan 21st Century Readiness Caucus to highlight and support the work that innovative schools are doing to prepare students for success in the modern economy.
